As the year 2020 wrapped up, the carpooling and ridesharing app market on the Android platform saw some interesting trends in the United States. Data from Sensor Tower provides a snapshot of how the top applications in this category performed in the last quarter.

Uber - Request a ride saw its downloads fluctuate, starting the quarter with around 76K downloads and peaking at 88K by the year's end. Weekly active users showed a more pronounced upward trend, increasing from 2.5M in late September to nearly 3M by the close of December.

Lyft, another major player, experienced a similar pattern in downloads, beginning with 73K and surging to 94K in the final week of December. Active user counts for Lyft started at 1.5M and, after a dip in early December, rose back up to 1.4M by the end of the quarter.

The app for Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver showed a slight decline in downloads, from 26K in the last week of September to around 23K at the end of December. However, weekly active users presented a different picture, peaking at 550K in mid-November before settling at 483K towards the end of the year.

For Lyft Driver, downloads began at 10K and saw a modest increase to nearly 10K by the year's end. The app's active users remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, hovering around the 215K mark.

Lastly, Bolt: Request a Ride started the quarter with just over 3K downloads and saw a significant jump to 11K in the third week of December, followed by a slight decrease to 8.7K. The active users for Bolt showed steady growth, starting at 4.2K and reaching nearly 12K by the last week of December.
